In our research, the human microbiome takes center stage in our interests. Collaborating with research institutions on both a national and international scale, we conduct interdisciplinary investigations into the role of our microbial cohabitants and the effects of the microbial environment. This includes studying the role of indoor plants in interaction with our microbiome. We also explore extreme environments, such as microbes found at the ocean floor or in the crater of a volcano. Additionally, space is a part of our research; for instance, we examine how the microbiome of astronauts behaves, with the aim of enabling future long space journeys, such as to Mars.
