The Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) in Peru has been cooperating very successfully with a number of Austrian universities for many years and has also been in contact with Med Uni Graz for five years. Following the establishment of the human medicine degree program at USIL, in 2022 the time had come for Med Uni Graz to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with USIL, one of the leading universities in Peru, as the cornerstone for future cooperation.
The main purpose of the cooperation is to expand the quality-assured exchange opportunities for Med Uni Graz students, but teaching and training activities as well as bottom-up research cooperation are also intended objectives of the cooperation. A detailed agreement was recently signed, which enables student exchanges in the diploma program of human medicine and serves as a legal basis for possible research collaborations, should these be sought by researchers from both institutions.
Clinical rotations and CPY traineeships for students in Lima, Highlands and the rainforest
From fall 2024, four places annually are offered to Med Uni Graz students for clinical rotations or traineeships in the Clinical Practical Year (CPY) in Peru, with a choice of four specialties: internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, general surgery and traumatology. The clinical traineeships take place in private and public teaching hospitals of USIL. If desired, placements in the Highlands or the rainforest regions of Peru are also possible, where the focus is on learning about infectious diseases in the regions. The clinical traineeships at USIL fulfill the curricular requirements of Med Uni Graz and students receive financial support through funding from Med Uni Graz. In return, USIL students will have the opportunity to do clinical placements at the University Hospital Graz or at other teaching hospitals of Med Uni Graz.
Research cooperation
If you are interested in cooperation with USIL, please contact the International Office (director-international@medunigraz.at). For May 2025, colleagues from USIL have announced their participation in the Global Partner Week at Med Uni Graz, during which contacts could be made directly on campus.
