Im Februar fand am Campus der Med Uni Graz der erste „OLRC Science Day“ statt. Zahlreiche Wissenschafter*innen der einzelnen Lehrstühle nutzten die Gelegenheit, ihre Forschungsergebnisse auszutauschen, Kontakte zu knüpfen und neue Kooperationen aufzubauen.
Nach der Begrüßung durch Vizerektorin Caroline Schober gab Akos Heinemann, Leiter des Zentrums, einen Überblick über die vielfältigen Forschungsaktivitäten der Wissenschafter*innen. Im Anschluss stellten die Leiter*innen der Lehrstühle für Pharmakologie, Physiologie und Pathophysiologie, Medizinische Chemie und Immunologie ihre Lehrstühle vor und berichteten über ihre laufende Forschung und langfristigen Ziele. Das wissenschaftliche Programm umfasste drei Vorträge pro Lehrstuhl. Darüber hinaus hatten fünf junge Wissenschafter*innen pro Lehrstuhl die Möglichkeit, ihre aktuellen Projekte in 3-minütigen Flash-Vorträgen vorzustellen. Abschließend stellte Marion Mußbacher vom Institut für Pharmakologie und Toxikologie der Universität Graz ihre Forschung in einem Plenarvortrag am Ende des Meetings vor.
Die Veranstaltung war ein Erfolg, wie die Teilnehmer*innenzahl, die umfangreiche wissenschaftliche Diskussion und das sehr positive Feedback zeigen. Es war großartig, sich in einem so lebendigen und wissenschaftlich fundierten Umfeld zu vernetzen, was den Beginn neuer Kooperationen und einen konstruktiven Gedankenaustausch zwischen den Forscher*innen des Zentrums erleichterte. Am Ende des Wissenschaftstages wurden Bruno Di Geronimo Quintero und Spela Mandl vom Laboratory of Computer-Aided Molecular Design des Lehrstuhls für Medizinische Chemie der Preis für die beste Flash-Talk-Präsentation verliehen.
Ein herzliches Dankeschön auch an die Organisator*innen Stefano Angiari und Johannes Fessler (Lehrstuhl für Immunologie), Sebastian Schwaminger und Pedro Alejandro Sánchez Murcia (Lehrstuhl für Medizinische Chemie), Julia Kargl (Lehrstuhl für Pharmakologie) sowie Bianca Steuber und Alicja Wawrzen (Lehrstuhl für Physiologie und Pathophysiologie).
On Thursday, February 16th, the OLRC Science Day took place on the campus of Med Uni Graz. Throughout the day, researchers from the OLRC were updated on how the Center and the individual Divisions are running, and they had the opportunity to share their research, connect, and establish new collaborations. This was the first edition of this event, which will be organised annually from 2023 on.
The day started with a welcome speech from Caroline Schober, Vice Rector of Research and International Affairs, and an introductive overview on the Center by Akos Heinemann, Head of the OLRC. The scientific program was divided into 4 sessions, one for each Division: Pharmacology, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Immunology. During each session, the Division Chairs introduced their Division, summarizing its organigram, ongoing research, and long-term goals. The scientific program included 3 lectures per Division from principal investigators or senior postdoctoral fellows, who presented their groups and gave some detail on the current research ongoing in their laboratory. Moreover, 5 young scientists per Division (mainly master’s students and PhD students) had the opportunity to show their current projects in 3-minutes flash talks. Finally, Marion Mußbacher from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Graz presented her research in a plenary lecture at the end of the meeting.
The event was a success, as highlighted by the number of people attending, the extensive scientific discussion, and the very positive feedback received from the participants. It was great to connect with each other in such a lively and scientifically sound setting, which facilitated the start of new collaborations and a constructive exchange of ideas between researchers of the Center. At the end of the meeting, a prize was awarded to Bruno Di Geronimo Quintero and Spela Mandl from the Laboratory of Computer-Aided Molecular Design of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry for the best flash talk presentation. Congratulations to both of them!
