We are looking for an excellent specialist and researcher with great potential to expand our internationally renowned scientific and research agenda in the field of oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract.
The successful candidate should be a proven expert with sufficient experience in basic, preclinical and clinical research in the field of oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and represent it in research, teaching and patient care. S/he should have a proven track record of engaging in interdisciplinary and interprofessional cooperation between different specialist areas and institutions.
The initial appointment is limited to six years with a qualification agreement (tenure track model pursuant to § 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). The career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor. If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Innovatively advancing research in the field of oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract
- Designing, acquiring, implementing and managing funded (peer reviewed) research projects
- Establishing a nationally and internationally renowned multidisciplinary research group with a focus on oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and promoting junior researchers and clinicians
- Cooperating on research that exploits the existing strengths of the division or department and other disciplines at the Medical University of Graz
- Providing outpatient and inpatient care according to modern biopsychosocial and personalized medicine and being on call at night and on weekends
- Writing and publishing high-quality scientific papers
- Consolidating and expanding national and international cooperation
- Teaching undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses in medicine, supervising diploma and PhD students and mentoring and promoting junior researchers
- Participating in effective public relations work in the research area (public lectures, media, etc.)
Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Degree in medicine and a relevant doctoral degree
- Authorization to teach (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification from another country
- Authorization to practice as a specialist in surgery and visceral surgery or the equivalent qualification from another country
- Several years of experience in the field of oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract
- Outstanding scientific qualifications in the area of oncologic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract
- Experience in setting up and directing a scientific working group
- Experience in university teaching and/or (co)supervising doctoral students and/or training postdoctoral scholars
- Proven track record of national and international networking
- Research stay abroad of several months at a different research institution than the one where s/he received specialist training
- C1 level of proficiency in both spoken and written German and English (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
The ideal candidate has the following profile:
- Experience in the area of intraoperative imaging of tumors and image-guided surgery
- Experience in the area of intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT)
- Experience in the area of hyperthermal intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)
- Experience in creating and implementing new teaching and learning concepts in the specialty area
- Great willingness to engage in interdisciplinary and interprofessional cooperation
- Highly motivated to achieve academic excellence in research and teaching as well as capable of inspiring colleagues and students
- Responsible work habits, resilience and problem-solving skills
