The Center for Medical Research division is looking for a

Core Facility Computational Bioanalytics IT System Engineer

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing Linux systems (Debian/Ubuntu) in an HPC environment with basic knowledge of job management systems
  • Scripting smaller sequences and data processing as well as revising and automating processes, e.g., with Ansible
  • Conducting monitoring and performance analyses
  • Further developing IT infrastructure and services
  • Analyzing and resolving hardware and software issues
  • Basic knowledge in administration and configuration of web applications (e.g., Galaxy Platform, RStudio Server, Jupyter Hub)
  • Participating in exciting, cross-departmental IT projects


Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Completed technical education with a focus on IT (HTL, FH Informatics, etc.) or relevant professional experience in the IT sector
  • Knowledge and skills in Linux server administration in a professional context
  • Experience with scripting languages (Shell, Python, etc.)
  • Good English skills in speaking and writing (language level B2)
  • No knowledge of German is required


The ideal candidate has the following profile:

  • Basic knowledge of databases, backup software technologies, and system monitoring
  • Interest in current IT infrastructure technologies
  • Experience in 1st- and 2nd-level support and with interface/API development
  • Enjoyment of troubleshooting and consistently solving IT problems, as well as a willingness to learn
  • Careful, precise, and reliable working style with strong organizational skills
  • High service and customer orientation as well as strong communication skills

Classification in employment group IVa according to the collective agreement for university employees.


We offer a gross annual salary of EUR 47.464,20 on a full-time basis in accordance with the collective agreement. Previous periods of service can lead to a higher basic salary.
