Neuroscience

The Doctoral School Neuroscience has been developed to provide an integrated approach to basic, translational and clinical research in order to enhance the understanding of the brain and nervous system in health and disease. The highly interdisciplinary program is open to researchers and clinical scientists from different disciplines and provides a unique platform to gain scientific excellence in all aspects of neurosciences.

Scope

The Doctoral School Neuroscience has been designed to equip highly motivated researchers and clinical scientists with scientific skills to perform excellent research in the field of neuroscience. The program aims to investigate pathophysiologic mechanisms with focus on neurodegenerative and neuroimmunological disorders, cerebrovascular diseases and factors related to normal ageing. The departments involved include Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Neuroimaging, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Rheumatology, Immunology and Pathophysiology, Psychology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Cell biology, Biochemistry, Anesthesiology, Statistics and others.

The faculty consists of experienced clinicians and highly ranked neuroscientists with a strong international network providing a stimulating research environment. The Doctoral School Neuroscience combines the expertise of different departments of the Medical University of Graz providing the students with the most modern infrastructure and optimal knowledge transfer to conduct neuroscience on the highest level. Students will have the opportunity to work within a broad spectrum of research projects in basic, translations and/or clinical neuroscience. The highly interdisciplinary training activities across departments are complemented by seminars, journal clubs and lab-rotation programs. The overall aim of this doctoral school is to educate young researchers, preparing them to pursue a successful career in the field of neuroscience.
