In 16 Jahren International Office an der Med Uni Graz durfte ich selbst schöne internationale Erfahrungen im In- und Ausland sammeln, viele Studierende auf ihrem Weg zu uns oder an eine Partnerinstitution begleiten und beobachten, wie Incomings bei uns Fuß gefasst haben oder mich an Erfahrungsberichte ehemaliger Outgoings erinnern, die ich zufällig am Campus sehe oder über deren Namen ich auf den Universitätskliniken stolpere.
Es ist aber immer etwas ganz Besonderes, wenn unser Team auch zur Internationalisierung zu Hause beitragen kann und wir Gäste aus aller Welt bei uns begrüßen dürfen, mit denen wir bereits langjährigen Kontakt pflegen. So auch im Mai 2023 als 34 Vertreter*innen von 23 Partnerinstitutionen und allen Kontinenten nach Graz kamen und eine Woche lang im regen Austausch mit uns und anderen Expert*innen standen. Diese große Runde im neu eingerichteten Sitzungszimmer zu sehen, inspirierte einen Teilnehmer, die Runde als "United Nations of Medicine" zu bezeichnen - eine Zusammenkunft verschiedener Kulturen im Auftrag die internationalen, interinstitutionellen Beziehungen zu stärken!
In my 16 years in the International Office I have had wonderful international experiences in Austria and abroad, accompanied many students coming to us or going to a partner institution abroad, watched incoming students settle in Graz for good, or remembered the reports of former outgoings that I happen to see on campus or whose names I stumble across in the university clinics.
But it is always something special when our team can contribute to internationalisation at home and welcome guests from all over the world with whom we have been in contact for many years. Just like in May 2023, when 34 representatives from 23 partner institutions and all continents came to Graz and spent a week in lively dialogue with us and other experts. Seeing this large group gathered around the new conference room inspired one participant to call the group the "United Nations of Medicine" - a gathering of different cultures with the aim of strengthening international, inter-institutional relations!
